Canine Good Citizen
- AKC CGC Program was started in 1989 as a way to encourage dog owners to train their dogs. It rewards dogs who display good social behavior.
- As of January 2013, CGC is an official AKC title that can go at the end of your dog’s name.
- In the CGC test your dog is asked to:
- Greet a friendly stranger
- Sit politely for petting
- Stand for grooming
- Walk on a loose lead
- Walk calmly through a crowd
- Sit and stay on command
- Come when called
- Behave politely with a strange dog
- React calmly and confidently to distractions
- Sit for 3 minutes with a stranger
- Tollers easily achieve their CGC with proper early socialization and basic puppy obedience training.
- AKC Community Canine is the advanced CGC – the CGCA title.
