Our Mission

SchoonerThe NSDTRC (USA) is a breed club dedicated to the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, or "Toller." The club was founded in 1984 with our primary purpose being to encourage and promote the selective breeding of purebred Tollers, emphasizing hunting ability, temperament, conformation, and intelligence.

A secondary objective was to create a club wherein members could have an outlet for information gathered regarding our "little red dogs."

Since our founding the objectives have been expanded and can be found in the club's Bylaws.

The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Club (USA) is the only national breed club for Tollers, and is the parent breed club recognized by the American Kennel Club.  The Board of Directors of The American Kennel Club approved the admission of the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever into the Miscellaneous Class at their June 2001 meeting.  Tollers became eligible to compete in the Miscellaneous Class, Obedience, Tracking, Agility and Junior Showmanship at AKC events held on and after September 1, 2001 and subsequently became eligible to compete in Hunt Tests on June 1, 2002.

The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever was accepted into the  Sporting Group on July 1, 2003. The Toller may enter any regular AKC  classes for any show that is on July 1 or after.  Registration was turned over from FSS to the AKC beginning May 1, 2003.  The club became AKC licensed to hold point shows and Obedience trials on August 11, 2003.  In March 2004, the club became licensed to do Agility Trials, and in July 2004 became licensed to do AKC Hunt Tests.  In September 2005, the club was granted AKC Member status.
